Vicodin Drug Rehab

Vicodin

Vicodin, according to information on www.drugs.com, is a tablet containing a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone.

Hydrocodone is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effect of hydrocodone.

Vicoden is used to relieve moderate to severe pain and may also be used for other purposes. Hydrocodone can be addicting. It is the hydrocodone that is addicting. It is important to be aware of that when taking Vicodin. The advice is to get off of it as soon as possible as it can become more and more difficult to get off, the longer it is taken. As a drug counselor, I have spoken to a countless number of people who were never addicted to anything in their lives, suddenly find themselves addicted to Vicodin after they have had an accident or surgery and been prescribed the drug. There is usually not enough warning given by doctors, so a person who knows little about drugs and addiction simply starts taking the pills and does not realize that addiction has set in until they try to come off of it.

Vicodin is sometimes sold in the street, so if you are prescribed this drug it is important that it is kept secure and not given to anyone else. The street value of Vicodin is fairly high. It is sometimes used by heroin addicts as a way to avoid terrible withdrawal symptoms that can set in if the addict does not have access to heroin.

If you are one of the unlucky people who have inadvertently become addicted to Vicoden and need help to come off of it there are certain things to watch for. Many counselors and treatment hot-lines will simply put such a person into the same category as other addicts and recommend treatment with the 12-step program and NA. That can end in a fiasco as the person addicted, only got on the drugs for medical purposes and simply need to detox.

There are programs where the first many weeks are only detox. These programs use holistic methods and make sure that the Vicoden addicted patient does not get put on some other drug. When having been on a drug like Vicoden for a whole, a nutritional imbalance is developed. Nutritional support can greatly reduce the withdrawal symptoms. A person, while he or she is taking the drug does not feel that the body is out of balance and feeling weak, but as soon as the drug wears off it is felt together with the emotional strain of quitting this drug. Replenishing nutrients, vitamins and minerals and doing a proper detox is often more effective and more important for someone who has become addicted to these drugs because of an initial medical need.

The programs that use nutrition and holistic methods generally get a higher success with this type of addict.

Many people call Texas Drug Rehabs admiting that they are on opiates painkillers and asking about methadone as a solution for their problems. Methadone is the most profitable drug treatment modality available for opiate addiction. Profitable for the owners, but not necessarily user friendly.
